The Kildonan School

Address

425 Morse Hill Road
Amenia, New York, USA

As we enter the 2009/2010 school year, itís hard to believe that we are celebrating our 40th anniversary. Camp Dunnabeck opened more than 50 years ago in 1955, but in 1969, Diana Hanbury King and Kurt Goldman shared a vision to create a school specific to the needs of students with dyslexia. For the past 40 years, that vision has been nurtured from the small campus in Solebury, PA to a 350-acre facility in Amenia, NY, which now includes separate elementary, middle, and high school programs, and both day and boarding options. Over the past 40 years, there have been many changes at Kildonan, starting with the move from Pennsylvania in 1980, and new additions like dormitories, academic buildings, and most recently, a $3.8 million Athletic Center. This fall, I am most excited about the launch of our new website, which will offer more options for current students, parents, and prospective families. As we eagerly await its launch, I ask for your patience as we put our time and energy into our new site rather than updating our old one. While the school has made many changes over the years, the dedication to our mission remains steadfast: to empower students with dyslexia to reach their academic potential and to equip them for future success. Our mission is more important than ever as many institutions struggle to maintain their identity during these difficult financial times. Our core one-to-one Orton-Gillingham program is designed specifically around the needs of students with dyslexia and language-based learning differences , and our 2009/2010 student body is an outstanding representation of our mission. So I welcome you to join us in celebrating our 40th anniversary, whether you meet us on the road at one of our many events or have the opportunity to visit our beautiful campus....
